Affordable Housing is a Federal Election Issue
Learn more about the issues in our latest edition of Keeping in Touch.
Individuals and communities across Canada are very concerned about housing. A recent poll has indicated that 63% of Canadians believe that new affordable housing will make life better in their communities[1]. Another ranks action on affordable housing 3rd among the election issues which are most likely to sway votes[2].
The housing concerns and needs of residents in Lunenburg and Queens Counties are complex. For example, nearly half (45%) of renters pay more than 30% of their before-tax income on housing costs (includes rent, heat and electricity), putting them in core housing need. This may make it difficult for them to afford other necessities such as food, clothing, transportation, school materials, or medical supplies such as prescriptions.
The South Shore Housing Action Coalition needs your support to raise awareness of the need for affordable housing options during the 2015 Federal Election campaign. Here you will find information and resources that highlight affordable housing issues and concerns. If you have questions, please get in touch with us at sshousingaction@gmail.com.
